PArt projekt
A Polar Art (PArt) Projekt a művészetet helyezi a középpontba, és olyan észak-európai irodalmi alkotásokat kíván bemutatni a magyar olvasóknak, amelyek azt vizsgálják, hogy mi a jelentősége egy művész életének, hogyan bontakozik ki a művészi alkotás folyamata. A Polar Kiadó elkötelezett az észak-európai kultúra magyarországi terjesztésében, ezért a PArt Projekt tíz skandináv műalkotást szándékozik lefordítani hat különböző nyelvről magyarra, és kiadni nyomtatott és e-könyv formátumban egyaránt. A projekt több, díjnyertes regényt tartalmaz. A szerzők és a fordítók kiválasztása során igyekeztünk a nőket előnyben részesíteni, hogy a Kreatív Európa Program egyenlő szerepvállalási politikáját a gyakorlatban is megvalósíthassuk. A regények témái a kortárs művészet, az alkotási folyamat testi-lelki örömei és nehézségei, a művészet egyénre, családra és társadalomra gyakorolt hatása. A valódi és fiktív szereplők virágkorukban és hanyatlásukban a művészet különböző ágait képviselik: a táncot, a zenét, a költészetet és a festészetet. A történetek kibontakozásában a természet döntő szerepet játszik, és a környezetvédelem mellett nem csak a szavak szintjén, hanem tettekben is elköteleztük magunkat a nyomtatáshoz használt környezetbarát papír használatával. Az e-book változat megjelenésével a környező országokban élő magyar közösségeket, illetve a külföldön dolgozó magyarokat is szeretnénk megszólítani. Az északi irodalom egészen különleges, magával ragadó atmoszférája nemcsak számos kulturális ismeretbővülést hoz olvasóinak, hanem a közvéleményre is hatással lehet azáltal, hogy a művészet egyetemes témáján keresztül nyitottabb és befogadóbb társadalmi modelleket mutat be.
The Polar Art (PArt) Project places arts in the centre, and wishes to translate Northern European literary works which examine what living the life of an artist entails, and how the process of artistic creation unfolds. Polar Publishing is dedicated to the dissemination of Northern European culture in Hungary, therefore the PArt Project intends to translate ten Scandinavian works of art from six different languages into Hungarian, and publish them both in printed and e-book format. We want to produce 1000 hard cover copies of each title. Since several award-winning novels have been selected for publication, the high literary value of the Project is guaranteed. While choosing the authors and the translators we decided to prioritize women in order to put the equal empowerment policy of the Creative Europe Programme into practice. The themes of the novels’ present artists, the physical and mental joys and difficulties of the creative process, and the impact of art on individuals, families and societies. Real and fictitious characters in their prime and in their decline represent various branches of art: dance, music, poetry and painting. Nature plays a crucial role in the unfolding of the stories, and we have also committed ourselves to the protection of the environment by the choice of eco-friendly paper we use for printing. By the publication of the e-book version large Hungarian communities who live in the neighbouring countries, or others who work abroad will also be addressed. The very special, captivating atmosphere of Northern literature will not only bring numerous cultural benefits to its readers, but it will also have an impact on public opinion by presenting more open and more inclusive social models through the universal theme of art.

WaR projekt
A „What a Reminiscence” (WaR, magyarul: Micsoda visszaemlékezés!) projekt ötlete az orosz-ukrán háború 2022 tavaszi kitörését követően született, és olyan irodalmi művek fordítását tartalmazza, amelyek a túlélők visszaemlékezését írják le a pusztítás különböző módjairól és a háború testi-lelki túléléséért folytatott küzdelmeiről. A Polar Könyvek az észak-európai kultúra magyarországi terjesztésével foglalkozik, ezért a WarR project tíz skandináv regény fordítását és kiadását tartalmazza. Hét, északi nyelven megjelent művet adunk ki nyomtatott, keménytáblás kötésben és e-könyv formátumban egyaránt. A projekt magas irodalmi értékét többek között az is garantálja, hogy számos díjnyertes regény kerül kiadásra. A szerzők és a fordítók kiválasztása során a nőket részesítjük előnyben, hogy a Kreatív Európa Program egyenlő szerepvállalási politikáját a gyakorlatban is megvalósíthassuk. Mivel a projekt központi témája a háború, valamint hogy miként marad meg a következményeit elszenvedők emlékezetében, nyilvánvaló módon a férfi szerzők is képviseltetik magukat. A regények Skandinávia történelmének különböző háborúit mutatják be a viking korszaktól napjainkig. A történelmi események, bár fontosak, a háborúknak csak egy aspektusát mutatják be, míg az egyének, a családok és a társadalom egészének az eseményekről alkotott felfogása összetettebb és árnyaltabb képet fest. Visszatérő témák a szerelem, az emlékezet lehetőségei és korlátai, a menekült lét pszichológiája, a társadalmi utópiák bemutatása és ezen utópiák összeomlásának ábrázolása. A történetek kibontakozásában a természet és tisztaságának megőrzése döntő szerepet játszik. A Polar Könyvek a maga részéről úgy tud hozzájárulni a környezet védelméhez, hogy a nyomtatáshoz környezetbarát papírt használ. Az e-book változat megjelenésével meg tudjuk szólítani a környező országokban élő nagy létszámú magyar közösségeket, és a külföldön dolgozókat is. Az északi irodalom egészen különleges, magával ragadó atmoszférája nemcsak kulturális tájékozottságot biztosít olvasóinak, hanem a közgondolkodásra is erős hatással lehet azáltal, hogy nyitott és befogadó társadalmi modelleket mutat be, annak ellenére vagy éppen azáltal, hogy a regények háborúhoz köthető témákat dolgoznak fel.
The idea of 'What a Reminiscence' (WaR) Project was conceived following the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian War in spring 2022, and it includes translations of literary works which describe survivors’ reminiscences of different forms of destruction and the fight for survival in various circumstances of actual or spiritual wars. Polar Publishing features in and is dedicated to the dissemination of Northern European culture in Hungary, therefore the WaR Project intends to translate ten Scandinavian novels from seven different languages into Hungarian, and publish them both in printed, hardcover copies and e-book format. The high literary value of the Project is guaranteed by the fact that many award-winning novels have been selected for publication. While choosing the authors and the translators we decided to prioritize women in order to put the equal empowerment policy of the Creative Europe Programme into practice. Obviously, as the central topic of the Project is war and how it lingers on in the memory of those who suffered its consequences, male authors will also be represented. The themes of the novels present various wars in the history of Scandinavia from the Viking era up till the now. Historical events, although important, present just one aspect of wars, whereas individuals’, families’ and societies’ perceptions of the events paint a more complex and nuanced picture. Recurring themes are love, the capacities and constraints of memory, the psychology of the refugee, the portrayal of social utopias and how they break down. Nature and safeguarding its purity play a crucial role in the unfolding of the stories, and Polar Publishing has also committed itself to the protection of the environment by the choice of eco-friendly paper we use for printing. Through the publication of the e-book version we will be able to address large Hungarian communities who live in the neighbouring countries, or others who work abroad. The very special, captivating atmosphere of northern literature will not only provide numerous cultural benefits to its readers, it will have a strong impact on public opinion as well by presenting open and inclusive social models though the novels explore wars.

Strong Women and Nature

A Polar Kiadó az északi kultúra magyarországi terjesztésével foglalkozik, ezért a Strong Women and Nature projekt tíz skandináv szépirodalmi mű magyar nyelvű nyomtatott és e-book formátumú kiadását tűzi ki fő céljául. Fiatal, kortárs női szerzők műveit 9 női fordító ülteti magyarra, a női szerepek a szerzőség, a fordítás és a promóció szintjén is előtérbe kerülnek. A könyvek tematikája egy nő életének fontos állomásait követi nyomon a születéstől a halálig, klasszikus témák mellett a homoszexualitás, a természettudományos karrier megvalósításának lehetősége, vagy éppen az időskori hanyatlás és egy poszt- vagy szuperfeminista disztópia bemutatásával. A történetekben domináns szerepet kap a természet is. 2 EUPL kötetet is tartalmaz a projekt. Mindegyik művet 1000 példányban szeretnénk megjelentetni, keménykötésben. A különleges atmoszférájú északi irodalom kulturális hatása mellett számolunk a művek társadalomformáló jelentőségével is, melyek egy nyitottabb, elfogadóbb társadalmat mutatnak példaként a magyar olvasóknak.
Polar Publishing is dedicated to the dissemination of Northern European culture in Hungary, therefore the Strong Women and Nature (SWAN) Project intends to translate ten Scandinavian works of art from seven different languages into Hungarian, and publish them both in printed and e-book format. We want to produce 1000 hard cover copies of each title. Since two EUPL winner novels have also been selected for publication, the high literary value of the Project is guaranteed. The books of young contemporary female authors will be translated by nine female translators, thus women become prominent both in terms of authorship and translation. By this decision we wish to put into practice the equal empowerment policy of the Creative Europe Programme. The themes of the novels present the important stages of a woman’s life from birth to death; apart from classic topics, such as infancy, first love or motherhood, the problem of same sex attraction, the difficulties of realizing a science career or age-related decline also appear, and a post-feminist dystopia closes the line. Nature and safeguarding its purity play a crucial role in the unfolding of the stories, and we have also committed ourselves to the protection of the environment by the choice of eco-friendly paper we use for printing. Promotion of the books, apart from Hungary, will reach three Central European countries via personal presence as the first step towards cross-border cooperation, and by the publication of the e-book version large Hungarian communities who live in the neighbouring countries, or others who work abroad will also be addressed. The very special, captivating atmosphere of Northern literature will not only provide numerous cultural benefits to its readers, it will have a strong impact on public opinion as well by presenting more open, more inclusive social models.

Polar Light Books projekt

A Polar Kiadó kizárólag skandináv szépirodalom magyarországi terjesztésével foglalkozik, ezért a Polar Light Books pályázati anyag is fő célként tíz skandináv szépirodalmi mű magyar nyelvre történő lefordítását és kiadását jelölte meg. 2-2 svéd, izlandi, dán és norvég, valamint egy finn és egy feröeri regény illetve novelláskötet szerepel a pályázatban. Szeretnénk a fiatal skandináv írónemzedéket bemutatni Magyarországon, fiatal fordítókkal együttműködni, a fiatalokat érdekelhető témákra és műfajokra fókuszálva. Egy különleges, három országra (svéd, dán, norvég) kiterjedő 2019-es projektet is bemutatunk Magyarországon: három Ibsen mű kortárs átiratát jelentetjük meg. Modern, digitális PR technikákat próbálunk ki a könyvterjesztésben és népszerűsítésben, hogy minél több embert tudjunk megszólítani.
Polar Publishing features exclusively in disseminating and popularising Scandinavian literature in Hungary. Therefore using the Polar Light Books project we intend to translate and publish ten Scandinavian pieces of literature: Swedish, Icelandic Norwegian, and Finnish novels, two of each, are included in the project. We would like to introduce young Scandinavian writers to the Hungarian reading public, working with younger generation translators, and focusing on topics and genres, like a collection of short stories, that are likely to be of interest for young adults. We would also like to present a unique 2019 enterprise involving three countries, and publish the contemporary novel versions of three Ibsen dramas. We would like to apply modern, digital PR technology in producing and distributing the books in order to reach and address the largest audience possible.
